Weight Loss Journey Update...the Good, Bad, and Ugly

With all that has been going on lately, I totally missed a July weight loss update. Granted, there was not much to report. I figured I'd hit the highlights honing in on the good, bad and ugly.

Let me begin with the Ugly...
Mid July we went on vacation. I should leave it at that, but seriously, I bottomed out. I made very few "good" choices despite knowing I needed to. I had opportunities to make healthier choices but threw them to the wind. It has been a major struggle to get back on track. I'm up 3lbs and holding.

The Bad
I have not jumped back into full commitment mode. I keep telling myself everyday that this is it. This is the day I pick back up where I left off.
The Good
I recognize my shortcomings and I've identified some areas of weakness. The majority of temptation has been removed from the house (again) and I have a game plan for next week. Monday will be my first day back (with students) for this new school year and I am looking forward to having the support I've missed over the summer. I will get back on track. I will get down to my first weight loss goal. I will be healthier for myself and my children.

First 5 Mini Goals

I've been on my low carb-get healthy journey since February. There has been a lot of trial and error and even more baby steps in the right direction. I have set mini goals that motivate me to lose 5lbs per goal. I'm well on my way to my first big goal of 30lbs. So, I thought I'd go ahead and share my five goal rewards for this week's Five on Friday.

5lbs
This lovely bead for my Pandora bracelet. I chose it as a reminder that I am able to overcome my PCOS diagnosis. I can overcome my issues with infertility and weight loss. God is bigger than my diagnosis.

10lbs
Thrive
I love CC and their music is always inspiring. One thing I've wanted to do with this life of mine is Thrive instead of merely survive. The tunes on this album continue to give me the encouragement to push on.

15-20lbs
This wallet from Thirty-One was a little more pricey so I opted to combine it for a 10lb weight loss goal. I just got it yesterday and I love it!!!!

25lbs
The Pioneer Woman Cowgirl Lace 12-Piece Dinnerware Set

I have been eyeing these PW Cowgirl Lace dishes for quite some time now. I can't wait to get them on my table!

30lbs

I am already becoming in need of some smaller clothing but I'm holding out. I'm hoping to meet my goal by the beginning of school and at that point, I'll do some updating to my wardrobe.

Thanks to everyone for their encouragement. I'm definitely getting there!

Currently: August

N's first Sunday at church 8.16.2015

I can't wrap my brain around the fact that it is August...and half way in at that! Here's what is going on currently...

Thinking about...
how this first week of school will go. It's so strange not to be starting out the year with my students. However, I would not trade this time with our new son and toddler daughter for anything.

Working on...
gathering consignment items and prepping them for the sale in September. I've participated in this particular consignment sale the last couple of times and I typically do pretty well. With our finances taking a major hit thanks to my maternity leave, every little bit will help. I'm also trying to finish up a photo book project for our son. I'm determined to have the same photo books for both of my children...I forgot what an undertaking this can be.

Learning...
how to be a mother of two. It has definitely been an adjustment. I feel like we're starting to adjust to our new normal, only to have to readjust when I begin back to work in October.

Watching...
reruns of The Middle. It cracks me up and I'm amazed how much I can relate.

Listening to...
my two year old sing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and "Jesus Loves Me".

Reading...
the latest Parents magazine and frugal cooking blogs. I'm also revisiting potty training tidbits since we've begun this venture (again) this week.

Dreaming about...
our new house. Every time I drive past our property my heart longs to pull into the driveway. With the changes we will be experiencing this year, it is unlikely the building process will be able to begin since our house has to sell first. I could be surprised but I'm accepting the fact that this dream will be postponed a while longer.

Wanting...
a cleaning fairy to come to my home. I just can't get this house together! I'm also wanting this potty training experience to be more fruitful than our last attempt...

Feeling...
a multitude of emotions. We have so much coming up that I am having to slow myself down and remember that 1. God is in control, 2. God will provide, 3. I am too blessed to be stressed.

Loving...
my life. Despite the challenges we're facing, I am so in love with this crazy, beautiful mess that I call mine. My children are healthy, my husband is amazing, my job is secure for another school year and the sun is shining. I think overall, things are pretty good.

Opt Out October

Well, judging by the scale you could assume that I've given up. Not true. I've just not prioritized things the way I've needed...or maybe I have, but the balance is off. Whatever the case, I'm not happy with the last month and a half and I need to get things back together.

The same goes for our spending. I'm pretty saving savvy but this past month I've made some impromptu purchases and I need to reign it back in. These things have led me to choosing to do an "Opt Out October" personal challenge.

October will be the month that I get some things back on track.

To get healthier this month I will opt out of the following...
-excuses for not exercising. I have to get back to making my body move. I've signed up for the Glow Baby Glow 5k to get myself motivated.
-doubt. There have been moments over the last month that have made me question whether or not I can really do this. I can.
-complaining. If I don't like what I see or how I feel, I have no right to complain because it is within my control to change it.

To make some savvy spending choices this month I will opt out of the following...
-buying coffee more than 1x a week.
-eating out more than 1x a week. We normally rarely eat out but this past month has been a bit crazier than most. It's just been so easy to grab a pizza or Chinese instead of making a healthy home cooked meal.
-buying clothing...I rarely buy clothes for myself, but for my little one...yes. I adore tiny human clothes and when I find a great deal I jump on it, especially since she is outgrowing all of the clothes we were given as gifts/have received as hand-me-downs. The one exception will be a pair of black tights.
-home décor purchases. Nope. None. We're working on getting our house ready to sell and that is where the money needs to go.
-things we don't use...need to be gone. I have big dreams to remove even more clutter from this house.

This month will hold a couple little treats. We're hoping to have some family pictures done this month or next. We're also planning on celebrating our 6th anniversary later this month. Those will be special items that I'll budget for. The only other things that I'm having to work out are the unexpected medical bills we have coming in. Suddenly my insurance is not covering some things that they've been covering in the recent past. Grrr.

So this is my plan. I'm hoping to see positive results in both areas. Wish me luck!

Fire Starter

1 Thessalonians 5:11
::via::
This isn't my typical Oh Hey Friday. This past week I accepted a challenge that was given during our youth sermon. It was called the 5 Tongue Challenge...you may be thinking this is an odd title but hang with me. The point behind this is that the words we say hold so much power. We can build up or break down. We can help or harm. The fact is, we have to control what comes out of our mouths. As Christians this is extremely important. We are living examples of what Christ can do with a life and it is our job to grow the Kingdom. How can we contribute to the growth of Heaven if we are continually harming our testimonies, shadowing the glory given to God, and turning others away from instead of towards Jesus?

Think about it...

"But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.

People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!"

Who knew we were all a bunch of forest fires just waiting to spark?! Here's the catch. A fire burns recklessly unless contained. Being married to a firefighter has well versed me in the characteristics of fire. While it's true that fire is often seen as destructive, there are times in which fire is necessary for growth. This is the mentality we need to have with spreading "the fire" through encouragement. Ok, now that you've wondered where I'm going with this, here is the challenge that followed the devotion on Wednesday. (I was granted permission to share this with you and it is my hope that you'll catch the flame.)

With this challenge there are 5 (here's the famous Friday five you've been waiting for) challenges that you attempt to complete in a week. The challenge was presented in a type of journal format so that we could all keep track of our specifics. I'll do my best to have the same layout for you. I hope you'll join us in this challenge...and it is my belief that if you do, you'll see blessings abound.
